Touchdown is a new band that has evolved from being a garage band to a professional, to-die-for alternative band with members who are all enjoying themselves as people enjoy watching them. Majority of the members are exceptionally young, but early on had already been featured in concerts around the Timog area; among which were Options, Rocky&'s and Ramsky's, at Ortigas' Metro Phi and One Sportsbar in Q.C. Elix, the vocalist, has music influences of Guns & Roses, Aerosmith, Mr. Big, Smashing Pumpkins, Live, Nirvana and Goo Goo Dolls. He sings with such intensity the girls become instant fans. His vocal prowess coupled with good looks can give any of our so-called pogi bands a run for their money. Carl on lead guitar is a serious player but only on stage. Seems only yesterday he was a neophyte on guitar-playing; but his learning is such at a fast pace he already overtook most seasoned guitarists in technique and form. Dean is their second lead guitarist/vocalist, the senior in the group who knows how to rock it out with the guys, as rock is his cup of tea. Dean knows how to get the audience move to their feet and gives the group discipline many young bands lack. Eric is the bass player who throws you licks and grooves only he can master, much so with finesse. A real go-getter, the alternative genre fits him like a glove. And Jon, completing the group on drums is such a vibrant player; he bangs and hits the drums and drives the band to a real touchdown. Jon is not only endowed with talent and great looks, [as the other members in chorus will say they also are]; his skills are honed through watching his drum idols in Skid Row, Rage Against the Machine, Queen, The Killers and Bloc Party; he almost perfected their style and added his own. B.W.P. (Bandang Walang Pangalan)translates Band With No Name and Family Affair (so apt because three of the members are the Talabis brothers) were the two bands most of them were in; before they thought of the catchy Touchdown. Positive, goal-oriented and upbeat, the name says it all. Together, they hope to be discovered and get an album out soon. Recently, the band rocked the house down at Blufin in Katipunan, Watering Hole in EDSA Shang Plaza Mall and C-front at the Mall of Asia. Catch them at your fave hangouts!
